Engine Test

Go Back

January 2024

Some odd tinkering to get ready for the first firing up in about 15 years...

A little bit of fun with the magic of Helicoils to repair threads.

Ooo - the fuel pressure reglator no longer wobbles!

Rethreading the manifold bolt holes.

Oil pump cleaned and prepared.

Going back together.

The engine mount at this end needs to be a bit less 'prototypey' so a bit of beefing up was in order.

Oil filter mount and cooler in place.

Water plumbed in and new filter fitted.

After spinning the oil pump with a drill to get pressure, the 'magic lung' (a bit of hose and a plastic bag) was used to find the compression stroke on cylinder #1 so the distributor can be set.

Static timing set, coil mounted and Lumenition hooked up.

Temporary fuel system to check the pump, fuel rail and injectors.

Lets make sure I can actually remember how to work the old Megasquirt ECUs and check the engine loom is still functional...

Engine connected up, temporary switch/relay panel in place using a 'functional' bracket :)

ECU hooked up.

Getting dangerously close to the point of getting Andrew to flick some switches to see if we can make some noise!

She's alive again! The engine running for the first time in about 15 years.

Basic running looks ok, so not a bad result :)
