Fuel Tank

Go Back

February 2024

Time to revise the beer keg with new pipe connections and a better fuel sender. Rude not to tidy up the access hatch arrangements at the same time really...

The seal has been cracked, we're going in...

So, inside the tank there is the baffle tube. (OK it's a bit of 2.5" exhaust with some small slots at the bottom, but it provides a baffle to stop the fuel sloshing away fromt he pickup pipe!) The sender is held to the baffle with a Jubilee clip.

Out with the old flaty arm sender.

Here's the new magical magnetic vertical linear sensor thingy along with design scribblings for how to fit it in the keg.

Going from CAD (cardboard aided design) to real metal.

New revised hole, with a bit of welding and tidying.

Test fit of the flangy thing.

We need a nice bolted hatch panel for this.

Seams and captive nuts welded.

Fittings going into the hatch plate.

Flange welded in.

Adding bends to the pickup and return pipes.

Getting the P clip welded into the baffle tube was entertaining key hole surgery type fun, but all good as the pickup pipe slips through to stop it rattling against the float.

All bolted up. Pipe bits seem to to fit OK. The vent will have a non return valve so we can suck in air as the level drops.

Plumbed in.
