16th Feb 2001, INFO ARRIVES, Classic Haynes Nice man from Classic Haynes, sent the 2 manuals for the Princess that I had ordered. Now I have all the rearbox info. Looks like the standard diff ratio is a little drastic at 3.72:1. On 12 inch wheels assuming that the V8 will have a rev limit of 5500 rpm then the max speed would be 85mph, with peak torque at 3000 rpm or 46mph !!!!. Looks like a 3.1 or 2.9 diff will be required - now how easy will that be to find ? 3rd Mar 2001, HARDWARE !! Visited a nice (not HSE) type car breakers in Pylle, Somerset, with a small band of helpers and extracted then engine and gearbox from an Austin Princess. Then split the box & other goodies from the block. So got box, transfer gears, clutch & housing, driveshafts & flywheel for a disgusting 30 quid !! :-) |
