While browsing the local breakers I came across a Renault UN1 transaxle from a V6 Espace, this is basically the gearbox used in a load of mid mount GT40 type kits, and is supposed to be happy with up to 350bhp or so. There are also bellhousings and adapters available from several suppliers to mount this to the Rover V8, so it may simplify the build a bit (crikey!).
